I love the work of calligrapher Elizabeth Forrest and invited her to work on a collaborative piece with me. The idea of text alongside sculpture gives it a whole new dimension. The three smoke fired seagulls are at different points of flight and capture the feel of a windy day on the sea. This piece called ‘Sea Fever‘ uses a quotation from the poem of the same name by John Masefield. The wood that it is mounted on is a beautiful large slab of silver birch kindly sourced and cut for us by fellow wood-artisan Roger Waterhouse. The whole piece measures 81.28cm long by 31.75cm at its widest point. This will first be shown at The Devonshire Dome in Buxton from 19th-21st July 2024 during The Great Dome Art Fair During this event many other Peak District Artisans will be exhibiting their own collaborative works.
